Earth Weave Area Rug - McKinley
This is a serged area rug unlike any other produced in North America. First, the entire rug is made using only 100% natural materials. What does "natural" mean? Earth Weave starts by using only pure wool, zero dyes, and zero pesticides or chemical stain protectants. The backing is made of hemp and cotton, and the wool fibers are locked into place with a non-toxic natural adhesive derived from the rubber tree. In contrast, most commercial carpet companies use a chemical called styrene butadiene as an adhesive. You tell us which one sounds more like something you want in your home.
Biodegradable Carpet Backing: Does this mean this rug will biodegrade inside my home? Nope! It means that once the rug has served you with many, many years, you can recycle the backing by placing it in your garden as a weed barrier. Once exposed to sun, water, and soil, the backing will begin to biodegrade over a period of 2-3 seasons.

Technical Data
Earth Weave manufactures carpet using natural wool along with a natural backing system. As such, it is subject to natural variances in color, shade and texture. Our carpet should be regarded as any other natural fiber flooring product such as jute, sisal, seagrass, and even wood. Color, texture and shade variances do not represent a defect and are inherent in the manufacturing and materials used. Watermarking (shading), roll crush or reverse pile can occur on any carpet. Due to the natural fiber content, specifications are subject to nominal manufacturing variances. Yarn lot variances occur in natural fiber carpets, therefore, actual merchandise is not guaranteed to match samples. Supply or manufacturing changes may facilitate product changes without notice. Please contact us to verify specifications. Natural fiber carpets vary in texture and color. Surface texture and variability in yarn sizes are inherent with wool carpet which may sometimes appear to streak in the face. This is directly related to the fact that wool is a natural fiber, therefore it is not subject to the same tolerances as a synthetic yarn. Variances in texture and color are normal and do not constitute a manufacturing defect. Shedding is a characteristic of all wool carpet. Earth Weave guarantees its carpets to be free of manufacturing defects for a period of 5 years.- stairs are excluded. Improper installation, maintenance or cleaning matting, crushing, soiling, staining, watermarking, shading, fading, burns, tears, pulls, or any other changes in appearance are not considered manufacturing defects and are excluded from this warranty. No warranty is made or implied as to the visibility of seams. Trimming, color balancing or shearing may be necessary on some seams to achieve optimal results. Requirement of such techniques does not constitute a defect. It is the installers responsibility to completely inspect product prior to cutting or installation. No warranty shall be considered on carpet that has been cut or installed with visible defects or pattern mismatch. No warranty is made as to individual reactions, physical or otherwise, regarding this carpet and its effects. As this is a natural product, we do not warrant for any smells or odors of the product.
Care and Maintenance
As with all quality natural fiber carpets, vacuuming with a suction only vacuum cleaner is recommended. Beater bar vacuums or overly aggressive cleaning methods may damage the surface pile of wool carpet. Proper vacuuming on a regular basis will increase performance. Use only a wool-approved cleaner for removing stains. Do not vigorously rub the affected area, lightly blot area instead. If stains persist contact a professional cleaner and be sure they use cleaners designed for wool and natural fibers.
Ingredients/Composition
The Bio-Floor line is made with a face fiber of 100% natural wool. There are no moth proofing or stain protections applied. In conjunction with this, Earth Weave uses only naturally pigmented wool fibers for coloration as opposed to any of the harsh dyes and chemical bonding agents other carpet manufacturers use.
To further differentiate this carpet Earth Weave uses a natural primary of hemp and cotton. This is used instead of the traditional synthetic polypropylene primary. The primary is the material that the tufting machine places the wool yarn into and acts to hold it in place. The next process is the application of adhesive and secondary backing material. This further helps to lock the stitches in place and prevents slippage of the yarn. This is another area where Earth Weave applies unique techniques. The adhesive that Earth Weave uses is 100% natural and bio-degradable. It is made of natural rubber from the rubber tree. The secondary (back of carpet) is made from jute, a hardy earth friendly fiber producing plant.
All of these elements add up to make a product that is beautiful to look at yet sacrifices nothing in the way of our commitment to indoor air quality and the environment.
