Water-Shield is a clear, versatile, controlled penetration water repelling sealer which provides an invisible barrier against water and resists oils, grease and similar liquids. It is fast drying, has excellent adhesion, and is easy to apply. In addition to sealing and providing a protective barrier against water migration, it helps to harden, dust proof and control efflorescence in masonry surfaces. It is not toxic, non-flammable, lead and formaldehyde free and does not contain surface contaminating silicones, making it a desirable coating for interior or exterior use. May be used on painted surfaces and may be painted over when dry. Dries clear and does not discolour.
Porous sententious materials such as concrete, stucco, brick, block, terrazzo and unglazed tile. Also excellent as a wood sealer.
All surfaces must be clean, dry, free from dirt, dust, loose sand, mildew, efflorescence or any other foreign matter. The pH of the material to be sealed must be as close to neutral as possible, and definitely below 10. If the surface has been acid washed, for example to remove efflorescence, it must be thoroughly clean water rinsed and neutralised. Similarly, once mildew has been removed, for example by washing with chlorinated household bleach, the surface must be thoroughly rinsed with water and all bleach residue removed. Always use care with bleach and acid, and be sure to read and follow all warnings, label instructions and MSDS. Power wash, brush or scrape all surfaces and be sure to have a good, sound substrate before application of Safe-coat Water-Shield. Repair cracks, holes and repaint concrete block if necessary.
Caution must be used when removing coatings from existing surfaces. Surfaces should be checked for lead content. Sanding may create a dust or dust particles that may contain lead, a hazardous substance. Avoid the creation and breathing of any dust particle. Always wear protective equipment. Breathing or eating lead containing dust or debris can cause health problems, especially in children or pregnant women.
Always use adequate ventilation. Apply with brush, roller, lambswool applicator or low pressure spray. When applying on vertical surfaces, start at the lower level and spray upwards. Flood until Safe coat Water Shield runs to assure complete saturation. Horizontal surfaces to sit for about ten minutes and remove any excess. Try to avoid puddling. Note: before using, check with water on test areas to be sure there is penetration. If there is none, do not use.
One gallon of Safe coat Water Shield covers approximately 250-300 square feet in one coat depending on method of application and surface porosity.
No reduction is required.
Clean tools and equipment with a diluted solution of Safe Choice Super Clean and warm water.
Under normal conditions, Safe coat Water Shield dries within 2 hours and cures hard in 24 hours. Normal conditions include a clean, dry surface, access to fresh air flow, a dust free environment, moderate humidity, and temperatures above 55 degrees F. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause Safe-coat Water-Shield to dry and cure more slowly.
Safe-coat Water-Shield is made without formaldehyde preservatives. Do not contaminate. Store in air tight containers. Do not subject coating to temperature extremes. Do not use when air or surface temperature is below 55 degrees F. Do not freeze.
