Radon is an invisible and odorless radioactive gas which occurs naturally from decaying uranium underneath the earth's suface. Though you cannot see, smell, or taste radon, it may be a problem in your home or office. Radon gas rises through the soil and seeps through cracks, holes, and drain pipes in the foundation or basements of buildings. Radon gas can be found all over North America, and according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 1 out of every 15 homes in the United States has levels of radon gas considered "high".

Radon gas contains radioactive particles which get trapped in your lungs every time you take a breath. As these particles break down, they release bursts of radiation that damage or destroy lung tissue. It is estimated that radon contributes to the deaths of between 5,000 and 30,000 people each year. Cigarette smokers living in homes with radon concentrations of 10pCi/L or higher increase their chance of developing lung cancer by as much as 18 times.

The PRO-LAB Radon Gas Test Kit provides 2 desiccated, short-term detectors which allow you to conduct side-by-side testing in order to get the most accurate and reliable results. An "acceptable" level of radon is less than 4.0(pCi/L). If the average of your two test results are equal to or higher than 4.0(pCi/L) you should take action to reduce the radon level in your home or office. The EPA's website provides lots of useful information for addressing radon problems. See: www.epa.gov/radon

The Pro–Lab Professional Radon Gas Test Kit utilizes the most advanced liquid scintillation, short–term detectors, which contain patented silica gel desiccants which remove all moisture in order to make your test results accurate and reliable. Testing is easy: simply place the two radon detectors in the lowest level of your home or office for a period of 96 hours to allow them time to absorb enough radon to be analyzed according to EPA standards. Seal the detectors with the enclosed caps, fill out the data card, and return the detectors to Pro–Lab in the pre–paid postage envelope along with the required lab fee ($30 for US residents - New Jersey residents must pay an additional $10 for New Jersey EPA administration costs).

Your professional laboratory test results will be mailed to you within one week of receipt, indicating the radon level in your tested area.
