Mold Test Kit |
Medical studies have found that black mold (Stachybotrys) is the #1 cause of allergic symptoms. This toxic mold grows in areas where the relative humidity is above 55%. This type of mold does not grow on plastic, vinyl, concrete products, or ceramic tiles. It is not found in the green mold on bread or the black mold on the shower tiles.
Cellulose materials such as cardboard, paper, ceiling tiles, insulation, and sheet rock are susceptible to mold growth. Mold spores are easily detached and made airborne by vacuuming, walking on a carpet or sitting on a couch. In indoor environments, mold can grow in air conditioning ducts, carpets, pots with houseplants, and any damp area.
This simple do-it-yourself test kit indicates the presence of molds within 48 hours. The test kit offers 3 analytical sampling methods: • Method 1 - Visual Sampling: take a sample of a visible mold growth • Method 2 - HVAC Air Sampling: take an air sample from your air-conditioning or heating system • Method 3 - Settling Plate: take an air sample from a location without an HVAC system
After a 48 hour incubation period, you may choose to send your sample for a detailed lab analysis of the type of mold present. This information will be useful to determine any required allergy treatment and remedial actions required for cleaning and removal of the mold. The fee for this optional lab analysis is $30.
