Handmade by the women of the women's cooperative of El Cerro, Nicaragua. As thousands of pine needles make up each basket, it can take a woman a full week to weave one. The baskets are finished with a rich leather trim.
The purchase of these decorative pine needle baskets helps continue this art form and provides an excellent incentive to good forest management. All of the artisans are paid fair wages - the manufacturer is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
