Green Events in the Charleston Area
You may be surprised how many eco-related activities go on in the Charleston area. Below are some events that may be of interest to you.
Support our local farming community by shopping at the Mount Pleasant Farmer’s Market. Visit the market on Tuesdays from 3PM until dusk. It is exciting to talk to area farmers about their produce, get the background story on what shows up on our dinner plates, and see what is currently in season. Don’t forget to bring your reusable shopping bags.
Green Drinks Charleston meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at The Trusted Palate at 563 King Street in Downtown Charleston. Green Drinks recently formed a Daniel Island Chapter as well.
The Sustainability Institute periodically offers workshops. Check out the calendar on their website for a listing of upcoming events.
Lowcountry Local First is a Charleston-area advocate organization promoting community support for independent, locally owned businesses and farmers. Check out the calendar on their website for a listing of upcoming events.
The Charleston Green Committee (CGC) is an organization dedicated to “providing leadership and practical solutions to ensure a prosperous community that will sustain healthy lives for our citizens and a healthy earth”. They present recommendations to the Charleston City Council for incorporation into the city’s comprehensive Plan for Climate Protection and Sustainability. See their website for more info.
